There could be multiple reasons, but most often it's because you didn't activate your SIM card. Also, it could be suspended from the service provider. The third option is that for some reason it isn't picked up by your phone. First, try to activate your SIM, and if that doesn't work, try other options. If your SIM card is older, rubber residue on its surface might cause the problem. In that case, eject the SIM card and gently clean it with a soft cloth.
