What is the difference between locusts and grasshoppers?

In terms of physical appearance, both locusts and grasshoppers are identical. There are two different behavioral states for the locusts. Unlike grasshoppers, locusts exist in gregarious and solitary states. In little population, locusts individually act same as grasshoppers.
