When you use PlayStation Network to sign in, you will appear offline for your friends, and they will get no notification about your online status. Even if your friends have activated the online notification for you, still, you will appear offline. If you want to appear offline on PS4, just click on your profile, now choose the SET ONLINE STATUS option and change the online status to offline.
