Why is GoodTimesWithScar in a wheelchair?

The scar was a swimmer, but an unknown muscle disease weakened his muscles, and he was forced to spend his time in a wheelchair at the age of 18. He is now confined to the wheelchair. Due to weak diaphragm, he is using external oxygen to breathe.
